Shower curtains can bring your bathroom to life with your own personal sense of style, but they must be maintained. When you take a shower, mildew and mold can generate on your shower curtain, which leads to you being stuck with a shower curtain spot. The mold can also spread and create more spots. Much like any other part of your house, mold and mildew can develop bacteria and eventually get you sick, so it’s important to know how to maintain your shower curtains.
First, you’ll need to remove the shower curtain lining from the rod. Every rod is different, so be sure to check and see how yours is designed. Some of them require you to twist in the middle, so make sure you’re ready for the rod to lose tension from the wall so you don’t drop it or injure yourself.
The best place to clean your shower curtain is outside or in your garage. This way, you won’t have to worry about transferring the mildew and mold to other parts of your house. You can create a solution to remove your shower curtain spot by mixing simple household ingredients. The best way to do this is to find an empty spray bottle first to put your solution in because you can cover a wider area when you’re cleaning your shower curtain.
The solution can be made of two parts water and one part hydrogen peroxide. Spray your curtain with the solution you’ve mixed together and be sure to cover the whole curtain, not just where you see the spots. Allow the solution to sit for five to ten minutes before rinsing off. It’s always a great idea to clean the opposite side of the shower curtain as well because sometimes the mildew can spread even though you can’t see it.
